Back to school welcome sign

Dear Parents,

We hope you have all had a lovely summer. We are really looking forward to the children being back with us in school on Tuesday and welcoming our new Reception year on Wednesday (Reception parents please see phased timetable at the bottom of this letter).

Further to Mrs Jackson-Ward’s e-mail last week, please note that the children’s arrival times will be staggered and the entry point will be the field gate at the back of school.

There are a few small amendments to the times. KS2 children (Years 3,4,5,6) are being asked to arrive at 8.45 and be collected at 3.20 while KS1 children (Years 1&2) are to arrive at 8.55 and be collected at 3.30.

Children have also been asked to BRING their PE kit to school to have available to change in school; we plan to spend as much time outside as we can. Please can the children bring a raincoat every day, even if it is fine in the morning, and it would be useful to have old shoes or wellies and a plastic bag to keep them in to allow us to use the field more often.

The staggered arrangements will allow for less crowding inside and outside school when the children are arriving, washing hands, hanging up their belongings etc. For the same reason, we are asking parents to contact school and teachers by phone or by e-mailing the admin address to arrange to come into school.

The government have asked that parents walk or cycle to school if at all possible and this would certainly help ease congestion going into and out of the village hall car park. Could we also ask that KS1 families have priority over the use of the village hall car park if possible for safety reasons. The Smiths Arms are also happy for you to park in the rear of their car park, if you wish, before escorting your children safely over the very busy road. Please refrain from parking on the main road or Moor Park Close.

We would be grateful if you could form a socially-distanced line with your children along the school fence in the field. A member of staff will be waiting at the field gate to greet the children and direct them to the other class teachers waiting in the playground who will escort them inside. The same will happen in reverse; at the end of the day, the children will be lined up in their class / year in the playground and be called out from their line to waiting parents by a teacher standing at the gate. If you have children in different key stages, please bring both at the earlier time and collect both at the later time.

Some of you with children in years 1 and 2 will be aware of the routine, but for others we realise that this is a return after a long time. If your child is feeling anxious or nervous, please take the time to reassure them but maybe join the back of the line again to allow other children into school.

Breakfast club and Treetops children can be delivered to the front door of school by parents as normal. Please ring the bell and your child will be collected from outside.

Please could we kindly ask you to be ready with the children in the field behind school at the times given and to vacate the village hall car park promptly. Children arriving late will need to be brought to the front door but will unfortunately have to be recorded late in the register.

We are looking forward to a really fun first week back with the children. Many thanks indeed for all you help, co-operation and understanding.

Mrs Sharpley & Mr Bailey (Base Leaders)
